Therapy Style & Orientation

The integrative model of psychotherapy I am trained in means that I am not restricted to one style of therapy but draw upon a blend of the most recognised and accepted therapy styles, techniques and interventions.  If you would like to read what The Counselling Society says about Integrative Therapy then click here
Psychodynamic Therapy
Seeks to discover how unconscious thoughts affect current behaviour and these are usually formed in childhood.
Psychological Parts Therapy
Parts Psychology is based on the idea that the normal personality is made up of parts or sub-personalities.
Jungian Analytical
This psychoanalytical approach aims to bring into balance the parts of a person's psyche which are conscious and unconscious.
Intra-Personal Therapy
Intra-personal therapy is about the internal  relationship we have with oneself.
Relationship Therapy
Our relationships play a large part in our sense of well-being and it is important to get these as healthy as possible.

Gestalt therapy is a here and now type of approach that focus's on a person's current experience of the now, and the environmental and social contexts of a person's life.

Transactonal Analysis (TA)
This therapy approach is based on changing how we respond to other's and how we express ourselves and is highly effective in reducing stress.
Existential Therapy is a philosophical type of therapy based on the idea that much of human anxiety and distress is based on our inability to accept our mortality.
Person Centered Therapy
This style is based on the idea that each person has within them the skill to heal in their own way and so allows the person to lead in their own therapy.
Hypnotherapy
As a qualified Hypnotherapist, Psycho-Hypnotherapy is a blend of Hypnotherapy techniques and used to alter ineffective processes in the unconcious mind.

Transpersonal therapy is a type of therapy that doesn't focus on a person's body and mind, but on the health of a person's spirit.
Psychosynthesis
Psychosynthesis aims to assist a person to access their higher level of consciousness.

Mindfullness-based CBT
This joins up your thinking, feelings, behaviours and focus's the changes you need to make to cope.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
With a certificate in DBT this therapy  aims to help those who experience intense emotions.

Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy
This approach is often seen as a deeper level of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Evolutionary-based Psychotherapy
This approach incorporates evolutionary explanations and guidance for psychological, emotional, inter-personal and behavioral issues and tendencies.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
With a qualification in EFT, this  psychotherapy technique is based on the ancient Meridian system used in traditional eastern medicine, just like in acupuncture.
Nutrition
With a qualification in Nutrition Specialism, Psychotherapy around nutrition with me supports a person to alter attitudes around food and eating and can often  enable us to identify nutrients to regulate certain conditions and ailments.
Journal Therapy
With a certificate in Journal Therapy, I help others use Journalling to help in decision making, problem solving and is a healthy place to release feelings.

Sleep /Insomnia Therapy
As a qualified Insomnia Specialist I work with Sleep problems to help get people sleeping well and so improving their mental health and well-bring.

Eco-Therapy
I sometimes use the ideas from Eco-Therapy style to inform some of my Psychotherapy and at times myself and clients have taken sessions outdoors or taken part in community activities.
Inter-personal Therapy
Inter-personal therapy is about how we communicate with other people.  Therapy around this aims to give you skills and techniques to improve relationships with people in your life.

Aromatherapy
As an NVQ3 qualified aromatherapist, this  use of oils derived from flowers is used on the body or in the air to improve well-being of the body or emotions.

Body Massage
With a City & Guilds in Massage Therapy, I am well aware of the power of healing techniques in massage therapy. It  can be a powerful healer of emotional or physical pain.
It is commonly used in back pain and for de-stressing. At my practice I might bring in massage to release physical tension in the upper back, neck, shoulders and scalp.

Reflexology
As a NVQ3 qualified Reflexologist this therapy can use manipulation of trigger /reflex points in the feet to aid relaxation and promote well-being.
It works by stimulating healing in the bodily systems.
